Audiobook Elegance: Michelle Obama’s Double Grammy Delight

Michelle Obama, the former First Lady of the United States, secured a Grammy Award for her exceptional contribution to the Best Audio Book, Narration, and Storytelling Recording category. This triumph marks her second Grammy Award, recognizing her audiobook titled “The Light We Carry: Overcoming In Uncertain Time.”

The announcement unfolded during the pre-show of the 2024 Grammy Awards on Sunday, where Michelle outshone notable contenders including Meryl Streep, Senator Bernie Sanders, William Shatner, and Rick Rubin.

Released in November 2022, the acclaimed book delves into Michelle’s life, navigating instances of uncertainty. It illuminates her journey from a rare African American undergraduate to attaining the historic role of the first African American First Lady of the United States. Interestingly, Michelle was absent from the awards ceremony.

This isn’t Michelle’s inaugural Grammy; she previously secured the same accolade in 2020 for her memoir, “Becoming.” Simultaneously, in the prior year, her spouse, former President Barack Obama, earned the best narrator Emmy Award for his Netflix documentary series, “Our Great National Parks.”

Their production company, Higher Ground, spearheaded the documentary series spanning five segments, showcasing the natural splendor of global national parks. Barack Obama’s Emmy victory, combined with his two Grammy Awards, places him halfway toward achieving an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards). Additionally, he stands as only the second U.S. president in history to claim an Emmy.

The Netflix series provided a visual odyssey through the breathtaking landscapes of five continents, featuring locations such as Chilean Patagonia and Indonesia.
