Local leaders and residents in Bulalaka village, Sala Parish, Tirinyi sub-county, Kibuku District, eastern Uganda, are gripped with fear following the brutal murder of a man and his wife by unknown assailants. Twaha Namwoyo, 38, and his wife, Nasim Katooko, 27, were discovered with multiple deep wounds, lying lifeless in a pool of blood within their compound.
The motive behind this horrific act is currently under investigation by the police, who are actively pursuing the perpetrators, still at large. SP Samuel Semewo, the North Bukedi Regional Police Spokesperson, revealed that the resurgence of machete attacks has triggered panic across the region.
Upon receiving information from Charles Namba, a district councilor of Tirinyi Sub County, about the tragic incident, the police swiftly responded to the scene. They recovered a blood-stained axe and two knives as potential evidence, which are now being held as exhibits. Statements have been taken from relevant witnesses, and the bodies of the victims were transported to Mbale Regional Hospital for postmortem examination by the police surgeon.
Local residents are urging security forces to bolster patrols and community policing efforts in the district, as the apprehension of the suspects remains pending. “We are now living in fear since the suspects have not been arrested. We do not know who will be next on the list of assailants,” voiced Mr. Peter Mwigo, a concerned resident. Kibuku Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Samuel Musiho, who also chairs the district security committee, condemned the attack, labeling it an “inhuman act.”
Assuring the public, Musiho affirmed the security team’s commitment to thwarting any subversive activities aimed at instilling fear within the community. He urged locals to collaborate closely with security forces in their pursuit of the suspects, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in ensuring safety and security for all.
