In a firm show of commitment to the successful completion of the National Housing and Population Census 2024, the Luweero District Police have taken decisive action against individuals attempting to sabotage the exercise. The arrest and remand of Navers Veran, a self-styled ‘Jesus,’ and his associate, Erishani Day Gresher, send a clear message that obstruction of the census will not be tolerated.
The police, under the leadership of District Police Commander Mr John Ojokuna, have pledged to maintain a strong presence and to arrest any individuals suspected of interfering with the census. This proactive approach is aimed at ensuring that the census is conducted without hindrance, providing vital data for national planning and resource allocation.
The community has also responded to the situation, with some residents expressing concerns about the disruptive nature of Veran’s group, including loud prayers that disturb the peace. The arrests have been seen as a necessary step to maintain order and to allow government programs, including the census, to proceed unimpeded.
As the census continues, the collaboration between law enforcement and local leaders is key to overcoming any challenges and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the population count.
