U.S. Slams RT with New Sanctions, Claims Russian Media is Funding Military Efforts

The United States has hit Russian state-backed media outlet RT with a fresh round of sanctions, accusing the network of going beyond propaganda to help fund Russia’s military efforts in Ukraine. The U.S. alleges that RT has been involved in raising money for Russian troops through crowdfunding platforms, providing them with essential equipment like drones and sniper rifles. The claim is part of Washington’s broader effort to counter what it describes as Russian disinformation campaigns and covert operations.

While some American media have questioned the validity of these claims, the U.S. government has proceeded with sanctions, aiming to monitor RT journalists and their assets within the country. Russia’s Foreign Ministry has mocked the U.S. for its relentless sanctioning, pointing out that RT had already been heavily targeted, especially with the 2020 shutdown of RT America.

The U.S. is also reportedly pressuring international allies, such as India, to curb RT’s operations, though India has declined to act, maintaining its neutral stance amid growing tensions.
