In recognition of their exceptional performances, three outstanding athletes have been named May’s best players in their respective sports. Fildausi Namulema (netball), Shadia Nabirye (football), and Malcom Okello (rugby) have each received the prestigious Fortebet Real Stars awards.
Fildausi Namulema: Netball Excellence
Fildausi Namulema, a center player for the National Insurance Corporation (NIC) netball club, has been honored as May’s top netball player. Her remarkable performance led to her winning the Fortebet Real Stars award, outshining competitors Rachael Nanyonga and Christine Namulumba from Prisons. Namulema played a key role in NIC’s triumph at the 2024 East African Netball Championship in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. Her outstanding contributions not only helped NIC win all eight matches and secure their 22nd East African title but also earned her the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
Shadia Nabirye: Football Prodigy
Shadia Nabirye from Kawempe Muslim Secondary School has been recognized as the best football player for May. Nabirye’s influential performance was instrumental in her team winning a bronze medal at the CAF African Schools Championship in Zanzibar. Her impressive skills, highlighted by her three goals that made her the tournament’s top scorer, helped her surpass notable competitors like Vipers’ captain Milton Karisa and Emmanuel Ajo of Busoga United.
Malcom Okello: Rugby Champion
Malcom Okello of Platinum Credit Heathens has been named May’s best rugby player. Okello’s exceptional performances on the field earned him this accolade, beating out strong competitors like Emily Lekuru and Ivan Magomu. His skill and dedication have made him a standout player in the rugby community, significantly contributing to his team’s success.
