In a commendable joint operation, the police and army have successfully apprehended 20 individuals suspected of engaging in the vandalism of road furniture along the Northern Bypass. The operation, marked by meticulous planning, commenced with the strategic deployment of undercover personnel, later bolstered by uniformed police officers and soldiers in identified hotspots such as Masanafu and Busega.

Road guards, security camera poles, and signposts have been subjected to extensive damage due to the illicit activities of these vandals. The breakthrough in the operation began with the capture of Umar Kitimbo, a central figure in the vandalism activities. Kitimbo not only admitted to his involvement but also collaborated with investigators, providing crucial information that led to the identification of his associates.

During interrogation, Kitimbo implicated Jonan Abigaba, an employee of Katooke Metal Scrap, stating, “We sell whatever we vandalize to these people. Some of our colleagues are Lubigi, and Abigaba knows them.” This revelation prompted concerted efforts between the police and the military to apprehend additional suspects involved in the illicit operation.

Among those currently in custody are individuals identified as Obedi, Eric Sanyu, John Obama, Junior Ainembazi, Bashir Kalangi, Wilson Muhumuza, and Rashid Mpugu. These arrests signify a notable achievement in curbing the rising incidents of road furniture vandalism in targeted areas.
